Cast Steel Reducing Bush
Cast Steel Reducing Bush
A cast steel reducing bush is a device used to transition from a large diameter pipe, to a smaller one. Reducing bushes are fabricated from a solid, single piece of cast steel; converting varying sizes of pipes, from one end to another. These special types of blanks are used to transition between welded and Solvent Welded mated pipe connections.
The bush has machined inner and outer diameters, with a bar stock wall thickness, to fit the equivalent pipe sizes. The machining process is used to ensure there is a smooth and consistent transition between the two pipe sizes. Depending on the type and manufacturer, cast steel reducing bushes can come in varying grades, such as regular, high strength low alloy steel, or chrome molybdenum alloy steel.
One of the main benefits of using a cast steel reducing bush, over a fabricated reducing fitting, is the cost savings. There is no need to connect two different pipe sizes using welding and other fabrication techniques. By using a single, cast blank, the process is significantly more cost effective. Another benefit is the overall installation time, as one component can be installed in the same time it would take to use several components to put together a fabricated reducing fitting.
Reducing bushes are available in a variety of pressure ratings, depending on the application. These ratings typically range from 150psi to 1250psi, with some of the higher pressure ratings exceeding 1250psi. As with any pressure rated component, determining the correct pressure rating is paramount to the safety and operation of the system, so be sure to select accordingly.
When it comes to installation, cast steel reducing bushes are designed to be quick and easy to install, as well as being economical. They require no welding or extra fabrication because the connection between two different pipe sizes is already milled out. This can reduce installation time significantly, and help prevent potential mistakes during the welding process.
Cast steel reducing bushes are used in a variety of applications, such as air, steam, water, oil, and gas. They’re commonly used in the manufacture of high-pressure piping and in larger scale industrial applications. When selecting a reducing bush, be sure to consider pressure and temperature rating, as well as the size of the pipe being connected.
